TKD IS A GREAT WAY TO LEARN SELF-DEFENSE

Traditionally taught classes focus on self-improvement through focus, confidence, and physical skill development. The training is generally intense an art mastery comes in years rather than a few classes. Given that martial arts classes are on-going students are generally more prepared for an unexpected encounter than self-defense only students. Muscle memory often kicks in before the aggressive actions are consciously clocked by the martial artist. Although no art or skill set is infallible, martial artists are generally more prepared in these situations than non-martial artists.

The Legacy of TaeKwon-Do

TaeKwon-Do, a Korean martial art, began to take shape in Seoul after WWII, blending traditional Korean techniques with Chinese and Japanese influences. In 1957, General Choi Hong Hi, the father of TaeKwon-Do, officially named it “TaeKwon-Do,” meaning “the way of the foot and fist.” The art was formalized under the Korean TaeKwon-Do Association, later evolving into the International TaeKwon-Do Federation (ITF) in 1966. A split in 1973 led to the formation of the World Taekwondo Federation (WT).

What distinguishes TaeKwon-Do is its strong ethical code, including tenets and a student oath, emphasizing respect, discipline, and integrity. Today, it is the most widely practiced martial art worldwide.
