Omaha Blue Waves offers Exciting Pre-Teen Classes for 8 to 12 Year Old Students

CLASSES
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6:00 PM to 5:45 PM
Tuesday and Thursday 5:00 to 5:45 PM
During the pre-teen years students begin to develop increased focus and physical coordination. In a martial arts class, these new found abilities mark a change in both the direction and the methodology of teaching. Play is replaced with repetitive skill set practice and an emphasis is placed on cognitive development. Students are expected to learn, understand, and live the tenets of their class including; courtesy, integrity, self-control, perseverance, and indomitable spirit. Martial arts become a vehicle for helping to teach positive values and ethical standards of conduct. At this age, students move into the standardized rank structure of the art which they are taking. All belts are earned through hard work, dedication, and practice. Although time in grade is a minor consideration for promotion, it is the successful accomplishment of skill sets that allow the students to progress in rank. No student is ever promoted without first being invited to and completing a skill level appropriate examination.
Building Positive Outcomes For Amazing Kids
TKD BUILDS CHARACTER
Life is different for kids today than it was in the past. When a lot of us were growing up our parents worried mostly about negative peer pressure.
Today’s kids are bombarded with messages that aren’t necessarily reflective of the ones you want them to learn. Television, movies, social media, and the internet are filled with negative and often dangerous content that can make growing up positively difficult.
Martial arts have been shown to build developmental assets that help children achieve more and find ways to create positive outcomes in difficult situations.

Learning and Growing …
TaeKwon-Do offers students the opportunity to challenge boundaries and find new interests in a healthy supportive environment. Students are exposed to a variety of learning styles that teaches physical skills, encourages thought, and requires commitment.
Fight Boredom and Gaming Overload
Kids get easily bored and find ways to fill in gaps. A lot of non-directed choices aren’t positive and they cause more problems than they alleviate.
Inactivity in children often leads to obesity and excess gaming can cause a host of issues including poor social skill development.
TaeKwon-Do is a focused activity that follows a curriculum designed to encourage health, mental alertness, and social interaction.

TKD IS A GREAT ALTERNATIVE BALL SPORTS …
Many children have difficulty dealing with the pressures and personalities of competitive team sports.
Martial arts offer healthy alternative while still providing kid’s with lots of activity that helps with coordination, balance, and general fitness. As the children grow they are able to experience martial arts competition as an individual or as part of team.
IT TAKES A VILLAGE..
Being a parent is the most rewarding job there is, but we all know that sometimes everyone can use a helping hand.
Omaha Blue Waves is a family friendly and family oriented school. Our focus when teaching our youngest students is to provide a structured learning environment that creates positive developmental assets to help them grow and be successful in life.
We work with our parents to provide support through classes and family meetings.

My parents had no idea what to look for, just that these guys were in the area doing martial arts and that martial arts are supposed to be good for building confidence, self-esteem, fitness... all that. And it was one of the best things that ever happened to me. Save yourself the trouble of shopping around. If you're in the area, go to Omaha Blue Waves. OBW is a dojang where everyone is welcomed and embraced for what makes them unique and what makes them strong. I trained here during the brief time I spent living in Omaha and never felt more at home in a city so different from where I’m from. GM Helaney and all the teaching staff are great at creating a learning environment that is both productive and fun. I enjoyed how concept-focused their teaching style is; it helped me learn faster and truly understand effective self defense strategies. They also have great respect for the Korean culture behind the art form. Corey Ostby2023-07-20Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’m a former TKD practitioner now in my late 40s who was looking for a different type of martial art to try. I decided to try Hapkido at Omaha Blue Waves and I am more than happy with my decision. Grandmaster Helaney and his family are extremely knowledgeable and have a wealth of experience and Mr. Humphrey is an excellent instructor. The Hapkido group is very welcoming and always happy to help practice a technique or concept. I have arthritic knees and that has not been a hindrance to this point as I look forward to continuing in hopes of achieving a black belt one day. I encourage anyone to come in and see what Blue Waves has to offer. Chelese Short2022-12-28Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Omaha Blue Waves if such a fun family atmosphere where your kids (and adults) can learn to love exercise, martial arts, and leadership skills. Hapkido was especially great for me. Our family loves the day we found this place! Maureen Fulton2022-12-04Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We held our son’s 5th birthday party here in Dec. 2022. I had been looking for something a little different for a party, as we have been to several kids’ parties at BounceU and SkyZone. I spoke with Jeff and Michele and they told me about what they offered for a 1.5 hour party; but that I could also customize it. They honestly understated the experience; it was an amazing birthday party and my son and his friends had a blast. Many of the kids who came had not tried martial arts before so a few were hesitant, but most jumped right into the mini martial arts class that started off the party. One thing that blew me away was the number of staff they had there for the party. I had expected 1-2 but there were 4-5 staff members there to assist in teaching the kids. The staff was clearly very good working with kids as they were quite patient when some were running around. The parents also loved how Jeff and Michele could get the kids to be quiet and listen! :) there were many other aspects of this experience that were great; I could go on and on. But I will end with saying, I had researched other martial arts facilities for parties and this was the only one I saw that let every kid at the party have a chance to break a board (as opposed to just the birthday kid). The kids who tried this LOVED it. Such a cool experience. Thank you, Jeff, Michele, and team! Jill Rath2022-12-03Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The Legacy of TaeKwon-Do
TaeKwon-Do, a Korean martial art, began to take shape in Seoul after WWII, blending traditional Korean techniques with Chinese and Japanese influences. In 1957, General Choi Hong Hi, the father of TaeKwon-Do, officially named it “TaeKwon-Do,” meaning “the way of the foot and fist.” The art was formalized under the Korean TaeKwon-Do Association, later evolving into the International TaeKwon-Do Federation (ITF) in 1966. A split in 1973 led to the formation of the World Taekwondo Federation (WT).
What distinguishes TaeKwon-Do is its strong ethical code, including tenets and a student oath, emphasizing respect, discipline, and integrity. Today, it is the most widely practiced martial art worldwide.
