Hey Blue Waves families! Just a heads up, Omaha Blue Waves will be closed on Monday, March 17, 2025, in observance of St. Patrick’s Day. We’ll return to our regular schedule on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, ready to dive back into training!

A Day in History – March 17
1762 – St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City
The first-ever St. Patrick’s Day parade was held in New York City in 1762. The parade wasn’t an extravagant affair as it is today, but it marked the start of a tradition that has grown into one of the largest and most colorful parades in the world!
1992 – The First Smartphone Call
On March 17, 1992, the first-ever smartphone call was made by IBM. Imagine life before smartphones! It was a huge leap into the tech world that would eventually lead to the devices we carry today.
1966 – The Beatles on “The Ed Sullivan Show”
On March 17, 1966, The Beatles made their last appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. By this time, the “British Invasion” was in full swing, and their impact on music and pop culture was undeniable.
1973 – The Release of “The Exorcist”
March 17, 1973, saw the release of the horror classic “The Exorcist” in theaters. Its chilling scenes and intense storyline made it one of the most iconic horror films in history.
1951 – Wallace and Helen Helaney’s Wedding
On March 17, 1951, Wallace and Helen Helaney were married. Wallace, a dedicated martial artist, was one of the first instructors of their son, Grandmaster Jeff Helaney. Wallace’s early influence and teachings helped shape Jeff’s journey in martial arts, eventually leading to his own remarkable career and impact on the TaeKwon-Do community.
