As we approach the Omaha National Martial Arts Championship XIX on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Millard West High School, we want to remind all Omaha Blue Waves families that tournament participation is a required part of student development within our program.
At Omaha Blue Waves Martial Arts, training extends beyond weekly classes. While consistent practice in the dojo builds technical skill, competition builds something equally important: character. Tournaments provide students with the opportunity to apply what they have learned in a structured, safe, and well-organized environment. They learn to manage nerves, perform under pressure, demonstrate respect for opponents and officials, and represent their school with pride.
Competition teaches lessons that cannot be fully replicated in class. Students experience both victory and disappointment, and through those experiences they develop resilience, humility, confidence, and perseverance. Winning is never the only goal. Growth is.
As members of the United States Kido Federation, our students are expected to pursue well-rounded development. Advancement in martial arts is not measured solely by attendance or belt rank. It also includes participation in tournaments, attendance at seminars, and involvement in community service. These elements are built into our curriculum intentionally. They challenge students to step outside their comfort zones, expand their knowledge, and contribute positively to the community around them.
The Omaha National Martial Arts Championship is one of the premier events in our region. It offers divisions for multiple age groups and skill levels in forms, sparring, weapons, and team events. The tournament setting is organized, professionally run, and designed to promote sportsmanship and safety at every level.
Our expectation is that Blue Waves students show up prepared, respectful, and ready to give their best effort. This is an opportunity not only to test skill, but to demonstrate discipline and maturity.
We encourage all families to mark the date, complete registration, and begin preparing now. If you have questions about divisions, preparation, or expectations, please speak with an instructor. We are committed to helping every student succeed.
Competition is not separate from training. It is part of the journey toward becoming the best version of oneself.
